Backcountry Takeoff — Privacy Policy

What the app does

Backcountry Takeoff is a flight-planning tool that helps pilots estimate takeoff performance at backcountry airstrips. It runs entirely on your device.

Information we collect

The app requests your device's location solely to fetch current weather (temperature, wind, altimeter setting) from the nearest reporting station. Your location is sent to the Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov) to retrieve a METAR and is not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere else.

The app does not collect, store, or transmit any other personal information. All aircraft profiles, weight-and-balance data, and strip selections remain on your device and are never sent to us or to any third party.

Third-party services

Weather data is retrieved from the US government's Aviation Weather Center API (aviationweather.gov). Their use of any data transmitted to them is governed by their own policies. No other third-party services, analytics, or advertising frameworks are used.

Data storage

All app data is stored locally on your device using standard iOS mechanisms. We do not operate servers that receive or store your data.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
